Juniors and Seniors Attending Northport and Westhampton Beach High Schools Get an Edge on College Application Process Through Pilot Program With ApplyWise.com
New York, NY-May 1, 2008- ApplyWise (www.ApplyWise.com), an interactive online college admissions counseling program that helps high school students successfully navigate the college search and admissions process, today announced the launch of its first pilot program with Eastern Suffolk BOCES. Getting into college is more competitive than ever before with an alarming 40% increase in Common Applications processed online this past fall, and the number of high school graduates expected to reach an all-time high in 2009. With the ApplyWise pilot program, Eastern Suffolk BOCES is offering over 500 students attending Northport and Westhampton Beach High Schools a tool that can help them through the complicated college admissions process.
There is no cost to the students to participate in the program, which is being sponsored by Eastern Suffolk BOCES. The Eastern Suffolk BOCES and ApplyWise pilot program begins this semester and continues through June 2008. With the ApplyWise program, students will get step-by-step guidance and tools to build a customized and strategic plan for helping them through the complicated admissions process. This program also allows students to easily track their entire application process and engage in tutorials that address critical issues such as selecting the right colleges, essay writing and mastering college interviews. In addition, ApplyWise uniquely helps their parents and guidance counselors collaborate and stay involved throughout the process. While the student's privacy remains secure, parents and guidance counselors are able to collaborate with students and keep track of their student's progress along the way.
"High school guidance counselors strive to give every college bound student the attention they deserve, but meeting each individual's needs can be challenging," said Jeanne Weber Director of the Regional Information Center at Eastern Suffolk BOCES. "We're excited to offer our students ApplyWise, an easy-to-use online tool that guides students through the challenging college application process and supports the efforts of guidance counselors and parents."
ApplyWise leverages the comprehensive methodology developed by Dr. Katherine Cohen, who has helped thousands of students get into the colleges of their choice through her educational consulting company, IvyWise and her books, Rock Hard Apps and The Truth About Getting In. In 2007, 94 percent of IvyWise students were admitted to one of their top three choice schools. With the online program ApplyWise, Dr. Cohen is able to make her proven tactics and results accessible to all high school students.
"ApplyWise is the perfect supportive tool for high school counselors with heavy caseloads of students. Counselors can track their students' progress and know that their students are getting the most up to date information and advice on college admissions. With text messages and email alerts warning students of important deadlines, now counselors and parents can leave the nagging to ApplyWise." said Dr. Katherine Cohen, founder of IvyWise and co-founder and CEO of ApplyWise.
"As a school counselor, I welcome the support that ApplyWise provides students and parents, and I especially appreciate how the program keeps the counselor involved in the process," said Barbara Busch, College Liaison Counselor at Northport High School. "The program speaks to students and addresses critical college admissions issues in a professional and accurate way 24/7. It's reassuring to me to know that students can get expert answers to their questions when a counselor is not available."
